When it comes to performing any treatment or service for your clientele, chemical peels are the #1 way to offer the most variety in your treatment room.

When it comes to performing any treatment or service for your clientele, chemical peels are the #1 way to offer the most variety in your treatment room. Chemical peels are going to remedy one of 3 things: acne, pigmentation, or aging. Some peels relieve multiple, but most peels will just focus on one condition.

Peels are also formulated individually to be their own specific strength but not every client wants to receive the same depth of peel. Every client deserves their own peel and custom treatment for their concerns, schedule, and lifestyle. This makes it so important to know how to mix and match your treatments to cater to every single client you see.

The best way to be able to customize your services is by cocktailing your chemical peels! This will allow you to not only offer custom treatments, but to also make your backbar seem bigger than it really is.

Who would say no to that?! Now the question is how do I do this? The most important rule of thumb to follow with cocktailing chemical peels is if you mix an active ingredient with an active ingredient, the mixture will be more active. If you mix a non-active ingredient with an active ingredient, the mixture will be less active. This is good to know when you want to bump up or buffer down the aggression of a chemical peel. Using this rule to your advantage is the number one way to make your backbar seem bigger than it really is and will give you the ability to truly customize your services for each and every client.

If you would like to know more about cocktailing chemical peels, please watch out for this month’s webinar that will dive more in-depth into Cocktailing Chemical Peels!

A New Year and a fresh start - filled with NEW Beginnings! What better time than NOW to show you and your skin a little TLC.

A New Year and a fresh start - filled with NEW Beginnings! What better time than NOW to show you and your skin a little TLC. Here are our Top 5 Tips to Better Skin in 2019 Tip #1: Cleanse your skin Morning & NightJust like brushing your teeth at least twice a day, cleansing the skin morning and night is just as important. Now you don’t need to use a cleanser twice a day if that's too much for your skin, but you need to at least rinse it. Your body has a few things that happen during the day and night that you might not realize. During the day our skin is exposed to many factors that can harm the skin and lead to premature aging (And no one has ever said YES to that). These factors include: pollutants, bacteria, dirt and oil --- all of which lead to free radical damage in the body. It’s important to cleanse your skin at night to remove all those harmful factors so your body doesn’t absorb them while you’re sleeping. It’s important to cleanse the skin in the morning because during the night your body performs functions that will purge impurities and toxins out of the body through our pores, leaving a film of toxins on the skin. If you don’t rinse this off your body will re-absorb everything it worked so hard to remove at night. Tip #2: Invest in a Professional and their Treatments! This is one of the best investments you can make for yourself now and long term. Seeing a licensed professional will help you to identify certain needs and results that you would like to see in your skin. Estheticians go to school for numerous hours to learn about the epidermis (skin) in order to truly help and customize care plans for clients. This is a serious decision and one that is just as important as going to the doctor and dentist yearlyOur skin is the largest organ and its main job is to protect our body from harm --- every single day. Make sure to take care of it and send it some love! Tip #3: Invest in your Skin Care RegimenThis is by far the best investment (next to seeing a pro) that you can do for your skin. Don’t waste your hard-earned money on a fancy label and container. It’s about what’s INSIDE that counts! If you truly want to see a difference and make a change in your skin then you need to take skin care seriously, and we mean seriously. You need to dedicate time to use the products daily, it’s not enough to use products once or twice a week and expect amazing results. Just like you need to brush your teeth to keep them healthy, you need to care for your skin daily. If you buy quality products you don’t need a long-complicated system, in fact a simple 4 step system is plenty to start with (Cleanser, Treatment Product, Moisturizer & SPF) We recommend you do your skin care regimen before or after you brush your teeth. Set aside 3 minutes morning and night for these habits and you’ll see a big difference right away! Tip #4: Hydrate your Skin and we don’t mean with just H2OBefore you roll your eyes hear us out --- we know this is something that everyone already knows and that’s exactly why it’s on the list – WE ALL SHOULD BE DRINKING MORE WATER! But that’s not the only way to hydrate your skin. Our skin has many layers and there are a few layers that are responsible for keeping everything happy and hydrated. It does this by building a protective barrier of fatty acids, lipids and ceramides. If you are prone to dry skin, it’s likely that you need to be using products that contain some of these ingredients to ensure your barrier is intact and healthy. This barrier can be easily compromised by our environment, medication and even our daily habits (HOT, HOT SHOWERS) or overly stripping products. Make sure you are using quality skincare to prevent issues from forming in the future. Tip #5: SPF is ALWAYS the answerDid you know that 85-90% of Aging is from the Sun and not the aging cycle its self? We get asked all the time, “What is the best Anti-Aging product?” and we ALWAYS answer, “SPF!”

Sunscreen not only helps to prevent premature aging, but it also protects us from free radical damage caused by harmful UV Rays. We also often hear, “I only wear my SPF when I’m at the pool or on vacation” and this is a big mistake! It’s the day to day routines that we do that leave us most vulnerable to UV damage. Driving to and from work, walking to the mail box, mowing the lawn and running errands every day is where the damage is done. It’s not enough to only protect when you’re on vacation. This is such a simple step but it’s one that saves lives.

Whether we like it or not, sooner or later we are all going to show signs of aging. Luckily there is a wide variety of options when it comes to treating aging skin. This vast range of treatment options can make your choice a bit more difficult, but we will talk today about the ways we can stop the aging process in a healthy way with regenerative skin care!

First, let’s identify some of the main factors that cause us to age or speed up the aging process. There are 2 categories of aging: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic aging is when we age from internal factors such as the breakdown of MMP’s that contributes to about 10% of aging. Extrinsic aging is when we age from external factors and makes up the remaining 90% of the aging process. Examples of extrinsic aging include sun exposure, smoking, pollution, free radicals, diet, and stress – just to name the main few. When we talk about treating aging skin with regenerative skin care, we will be focusing on these hefty extrinsic factors.

The biggest aging factor comes from that big ball of sunshine we all love known as the sun. UV rays are emitted from the sun into our atmosphere and accepted into our bodies as free radicals and inflammation as well as altering the structure and production of our DNA. Antioxidants come into play here to fight off these free radicals and sooth inflammation in the skin. Antioxidants are effective internally as well as externally. The most effective way to block UV rays from damaging the skin however, is by blocking them before our bodies internalize them with a good SPF. If we do not block these rays from turning into free radicals, they will over time create a chain reaction which damages the proteins in our skin resulting in damaging the DNA or causing cell death. It seems pretty easy that SPF can protect about 80% of the extrinsic damage done to our skin causing aging, yet sun exposure and tanning beds seem to be the norm over seeking our shade and applying sunscreen to our bodies. If you could prevent 80% of aging with just ONE simple product every day, would you?

There are a few ways we can help treat or help reverse damage done to the skin by extrinsic factors as well as preventing aging as a whole, of those which can be found in regenerative skin care. The 2 main categories we will discuss are peptides and stem cells, both are 100% natural and non-active for all skin types!

Peptides are simply chains of amino acids found naturally in the body. Amino acids are the essential building blocks for our skin cells that turn into proteins that are necessary for healthy cell function. When we introduce and apply these building blocks to the skin, our cell’s reaction is to break down our current cells and proteins and start building more healthy cells in their place. These speeds up our current cell cycle without causing any damage to our skin whatsoever!

Stem Cells help protect our skins own stem cells by protecting them and encouraging new healthy cells. Stem cells achieve this by protecting what’s called our mother cell. When our cells undergo mitosis, there is a mother cell (the program cell) and a daughter cell (the duplicate cell) which make up the DNA of all our cells. When we protect the mother cell from damage and aging, we protect the new cell growth by keeping our skin youthful and healthy!

Having a combination of SPF, peptides, and stem cells in your daily skin care routine is a sure-fire way to block, prevent, and protect the skin from the dreaded aging process in a natural way!  Have questions? Reach out to support@glymedplusaustralia.com.au
