As most of us are mid-way through springtime, it’s the perfect time for a reminder on how to treat your skin and helping prep for that summertime glow! Exfoliation is essential all year round, but each season calls for different ways of keeping your skin in tip-top shape

Our body constantly sheds dead skin cells; 30,000 to 40,000 cells a day.

As most of us are mid-way through springtime, it’s the perfect time for a reminder on how to treat your skin and helping prep for that summertime glow! Exfoliation is essential all year round, but each season calls for different ways of keeping your skin in tip-top shape. We will cover what you can use, what to avoid and how to protect your skin.

Before getting into how to treat, we want to cover a few helpful reminders:

  • Throw out any expired products

  • Clean your makeup brushes and pillowcases

  • Make sure you have a fresh SPF 15-30 (and use it daily!)

When treating the face, it is crucial to keep in mind a few things, the type of exfoliation and how often to utilize it. There are a few main types, mechanical, chemical, and enzyme exfoliation. After surviving winter, we want to ensure that our skin is coming out into the sunshine with that fresh, hydrated, healthy glow. GlyMed Plus has you covered when it comes to your exfoliation needs.

Some of our favorites for the face include:

And for the body:

Alpha Therapeutic Body Scrub: is an energizing formula infused with ultra-fine jojoba beads and alpha hydroxy acids, excellent for removing dry skin from elbows, knees, legs, and feet. Stimulating cellular turnover, this tingling blend of natural essential oils and botanical ingredients produces a visible and textural change after one use. Recommended for: Normal and Dry skin Recommended use: Use daily or as needed. Alpha Therapeutic Hand and Body Lotion: This is a super smoothing triple AHA lotion that uses a mild exfoliating action to slough away dry skin as it nourishes and moisturizes. Work beyond the surface to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, diminish age spots and hyperpigmentation. Recommend for: Dry and Sensitive skin Recommended use: Apply as needed In addition to these few options for the body, you can do a few other things that do not include product. Dry brushing is another great option for your body to provide a great exfoliation. It can help aid circulation and lymphatic drainage. Make sure you are doing long circular motions, moving in the direction up towards your heart. Dry brushing is best to be utilized no more than two times a week when skin is dry and is best to be done before showering.

When it comes to exfoliating, it is best to make sure that you are not overdoing it as that does not benefit your skin and can strip your skin and cause damage rather than help keep it protected. Another tip to keep in mind is to let your exfoliant do the work and not apply too much pressure when using. This will ensure you get the amount of exfoliation you need while still maintaining your skin’s natural barrier for protection.

Lastly, while preparing our skin for these warmer months, it is vital to use your SPF! Make sure that you are applying daily and reapplying as needed.
