When undergoing these treatments with our clients, it is crucial that we take the proper steps to ensure they get the best results possible and maintain the integrity of their skin in the process.

As aestheticians, we spend our time caring for various skin concerns our clients come to us with, and one of the many ways we treat these concerns is through the use of chemical peels and chemical exfoliants. When undergoing these treatments with our clients, it is crucial that we take the proper steps to ensure they get the best results possible and maintain the integrity of their skin in the process.

One of the most important things we can do for our clients before performing chemical peels and chemical exfoliants is to properly prep their skin for treatment, meaning we will actively exercise and prepare the skin and keep it at optimum health to ensure exceptional results! It would be best if you began to prep your clients' skin for chemical peels and exfoliants at least 2-6 weeks before their appointment.

When getting your clients' skin prepared for treatment, we recommend getting them on an active skincare regimen if they aren't already on one. It is beneficial to include products with ingredients that will speed up cell turnover and gently exfoliate the skin; this will ensure that there aren't any thicker patches of dead skin cells that would prevent the chemical peel or exfoliant from penetrating evenly.

Ingredients that can be used in your clients' homecare to stimulate cell turnover:

  • Glycolic Acid

  • Lactic Acid

  • Malic Acid

  • Retinol

In addition to speeding up the desquamation process, it is also essential that we care for the health of the skin barrier. This includes properly moisturizing and hydrating the skin and protecting it from the sun with daily use of SPF! As we know, the sun and even tanning beds contribute to most of the concern’s peels and exfoliants work to care for, so protecting the skin from accumulating further damage leading up to treatment is extremely important.

Getting your clients in the habit of properly caring for their skin before a chemical peel or chemical exfoliant is not only going to properly prepare their skin for treatment, it will also increase their chance of being likely to care for their skin post-treatment properly, which is essential to maintaining their results, and preventing further damage in the future. If you are unsure what products to recommend to your clients to get them ready for chemical peel season we have an amazing Pre-Procedural Skin Essentials Kit available on Regen Pro that has everything your client will need to actively prep and maintain the health of their skin.
