5 Tips for Summer Safe Skin

1. Wear SPF and be sure to RE-APPLY! The best advice during summertime, next to staying hydrated, is to wear your SPF! Skin Cancer is one of the leading cancers and it’s one that we can help to prevent. Investing in a high-quality SPF will ensure that your skin is being protected throughout the day if you reapply every 2 hours! And don’t forget the most neglected areas, such as the nose, ears, chest and the top of hands. 2.  Beat the heat and stay in the Shade Besides the fact that the shade keeps you cool, it also helps to limit the amount of UV exposure to the skin. The sun is at its strongest between 10 am – 3 pm, so it’s best to stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible during these times to prevent burning. Not only are UV rays harmful, but they can increase body temperature that can cause risks to our health and our skin. Picking a spot under an umbrella at the pool or beach is a great option. 3.  Hats & Clothing We live in a time where clothing can further protect our bodies from UV Exposure – some clothes are specially made to reflect UV rays. This is beneficial for anyone who burns easily or spends a lot of time outside, whether it’s gardening, hanging by the water or working in the outdoors. We often think that it’s our vacation break that leads to issues later in life, but it’s the day to day that seals the deal for the health of our skin. 4.  Drink lots of Water Staying hydrated during the summer months is crucial. Our bodies are made of at least 60% water and our skin is the largest organ but is the last to be replenished with water. Water is a NEED and is essential for lubricating joints, eliminating waste and regulating our body temperature. Drinking water will not only help maintain your overall health but it will also help to keep skin glowing and radiant. It’s recommended that everyone should drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh. 5. Skin Care! Wearing SPF is a must when spending time outside, but so is using the correct skincare regimen! Spending hours in the outdoors is good for the mind, body, and soul but it is so important that we protect against UV exposure and the harmful free radicals it can release into the body. Focus on picking skincare products that contain ingredients that heal, hydrate and are loaded with ANTIOXIDANTS! Antioxidants combat free radicals and prevent them from wreaking havoc on cells, potentially causing future damage. CBD and Vitamin C are among the strongest antioxidants and are great for protecting the skin during long summer days.
